Ingredients

  • 6 large potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup grated cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large pot, boil the sliced potatoes for 5-7 minutes or until they’re slightly tender. Drain and set aside.
  3. In the same pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add in the flour, salt, and pepper, and whisk until smooth.
  4. Pour in the milk and whisk continuously until the mixture thickens.
  5. Add the grated cheddar cheese and whisk until melted and smooth.
  6. Layer half of the sliced potatoes on the bottom of the baking dish.
  7. Pour half of the cheese sauce over the potatoes.
  8. Repeat with the remaining sliced potatoes and cheese sauce.
  9. Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese and breadcrumbs over the top of the potatoes.
  10. Bake for 45-55 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the potatoes are fully cooked.
  11. Let the scalloped potatoes cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

You can use any type of cheese for this dish. Try adding a mix of Swiss, Gruyere, or even blue cheese for a more unique flavor.
